Ferrosilicon 72
Ferrosilicon is an iron alloy composed of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon is an iron-silicon alloy smelted in an electric furnace with coke, scrap steel, quartz (or silicon dioxide ) as raw materials. Metallurgical manufacturers provide four grades of ferrosilicon, 75#72#70#65#, with favorable prices, and can provide natural blocks, standard blocks, granules, powders and other processing particle sizes according to customer requirements.

APPLICATION

1. Used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking industry. In order to obtain steel with qualified chemical composition and ensure the quality of steel, deoxidation must be carried out in the steelmaking stage. Silicon and oxygen have a great chemical affinity, so ferrosilicon is a strong deoxidizer in steelmaking for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation. . Adding a certain amount of silicon to steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel. Therefore, when smelting structural steel (0.4%1.75%Si), tool steel (0.3%1.8%Si), spring steel (0.4%2.8%Si) and silicon steel for transformers(2.81%4.8%Si), ferrosilicon is also used as an alloying agent. At the same time, improving the shape of inclusions and reducing the content of gas elements in molten steel is an effective new technology to improve steel quality, reduce costs and save iron. It is especially suitable for the deoxidation requirements of continuous casting molten steel. Practice has proved that ferrosilicon not only meets the deoxidation requirements of steelmaking, but also has desulfurization performance, and has the advantages of large specific gravity and strong penetration.
In addition, in the steelmaking industry, ferrosilicon powder releases a lot of heat at high temperatures, and is often used as a heating agent for ingot caps to improve ingot quality and recovery.

2. It is used as an inoculant and a nodularizing agent in the cast iron industry. Cast iron is an important metal material in modern industry. It is cheaper than steel, easy to melt and smelt, has excellent casting properties and much better shock resistance than steel. Especially ductile iron, its mechanical properties are comparable or close to steel. Adding a certain amount of ferrosilicon to cast iron can prevent the formation of carbides in iron and promote the precipitation and spheroidization of graphite. Therefore, in the production of ductile iron, ferrosilicon is an important inoculant (helps to precipitate graphite) and nodularizer.

3. Used as a reducing agent in the production of ferroalloys. Not only the chemical affinity of silicon and oxygen is high, but the carbon content of high-silicon ferrosilicon is also very low. Therefore, high-silicon ferrosilicon (or siliceous alloys) is a commonly used reducing agent for the production of low-carbon ferroalloys in the ferroalloy industry.

4. 75# ferrosilicon is often used in the high-temperature smelting process of Pidgeon metal magnesium in magnesium smelting. Replacing the magnesium in CaO,MgO consumes about 1.2 tons of ferrosilicon for every ton of metal magnesium produced. Magnesium metal production plays an important role.

5. Other uses. Ground or atomized ferrosilicon powder can be used as a suspended phase in the beneficiation industry. It can be used as a coating for welding rods in the welding rod manufacturing industry. High-silicon ferrosilicon is used in the chemical industry to make products such as silica gel.
Among these uses, the steelmaking, foundry and ferroalloy industries are users of ferrosilicon. Together they consume about 90% of the ferrosilicon. Among various grades of ferrosilicon, 75% ferrosilicon is widely used at present. In the steelmaking industry, 3-5 kg of 75% ferrosilicon is consumed per ton of steel produced.
